jennifer waterbury beaumont

Yoga on the Hill’s director, Jennifer Waterbury Beaumont, is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher and a Grand Rapids' native. She was fortunate to be introduced to Iyengar yoga as a college freshman by senior certified Iyengar yoga teacher Laurie Blakeney. Jennifer studied intensely with her for the five years she spent as a student in Ann Arbor. After graduating with high honors from University of Michigan, she began her ongoing study under Manouso Manos, an advanced level Iyengar certified teacher. She moved to San Francisco to attend and assist his classes while teaching yoga herself in the city.

After moving home to Grand Rapids, Jennifer taught locally for several years, and opened Yoga on the Hill with her husband, Andre', in January 2007. Jennifer recently had the honor and privilege to spend two months in advanced training directly under the guidance of the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India. She has studied under both Sri Iyengar and his daughter Geeta during their most recent visits to the U.S. She is dedicated to studying, teaching, and practicing the art, science, and philosophy of yoga in the tradition of Yogacharya Sri B.K.S. Iyengar, and Geeta and Prashant Iyengar.

maryclaire o'neill

Maryclaire has been practicing Iyengar Yoga for several years. Currently a senior medical student at Metro Health Systems, she was first introduced to Iyengar yoga while on a year-long sabbatical in Southwest Colorado prior to matriculation at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. She began her yoga study under Iyengar certified instructors, Jessi Hastings and Kathy Curran, and attended workshops with advanced level Iyengar certified teacher, Manouso Manos. Throughout the classroom years of medical training, she taught yoga to medical students and community members. During that time, she held a yoga workshop for at-risk teenagers at an alternative high school in North Carolina. (Due to its positive effect on students' behavior and performance, yoga has since been incorporated into the curriculum.)

Maryclaire moved to Grand Rapids for clinical training in 2006 and began studying with Jennifer Waterbury Beaumont. This past spring she attended a teacher training intensive with senior certified Iyengar yoga teacher Laurie Blakeney. Maryclaire's years of osteopathic study give her a true appreciation for the body alignment of Iyengar yoga, while her deep understanding of anatomy and physiology augments her approach to asana.
